Exploring the innate machinations of the psyche. You think you can do that? You think you can “flash” about it? In this workshop we’re going to use and explore symbolism and archetypes found in dreams and tarot cards. Each week I’ll be posting a lesson and a prompt and deadlines of assignments. Every assignment will receive an in depth feedback. The workshop will be running online for the duration of four weeks. Start dates and link to registration will be announced soon.

How to write short stories part I ( for Cairo and Alexandria residents)
This workshop is for those writers with little experience or those just starting out.

In this workshop you will be introduced to the elements of writing including :

  • Session One

    Focusing on Show don’t tell. How to use figures of speech to show rather than tell.

  • Session Two

    Characterization, dialogue and setting: You’ll learn how to study your characters using a character sketch template and how to reveal them and describe them using various techniques within the narrative, you’ll learn how to use dialogue to reveal your characters and deliver your back story and you’ll learn how to reveal your setting and use it to further describe characters and move the plot.

  • Session Three

    Plot, and how to plan your story and the narrative arc.

  • Session Four

    The narrative voice: You learn various types of voice, the do’s and don’ts and mistakes writers fall into when choosing the narrative voice. Also we’ll introduce the narrative hook, as in how to hook the reader from the very first line using different approaches and techniques.

    • At various points during this course you will take part in peer review exercises, submitting your own work and reviewing work posted by other learners.

    • You'll be able to draw on your own experiences, and what you've read - your observations and imagination, your language and ideas.

  • How to write short stories Part II ( for Cairo and Alexandria residents only) ?

    In this workshop we’ll focus more on critique and peer review. Going over all the elements in part 1, extra reading material will be given, the prime focus here will be how to structure your stories successfully and get them ready for submission to the literary market.
